Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students represent the diversity, vision, heart and soul of our vibrant, unique city. It is an TK-8th grade dual-immersion Oakland Public school committed to shaping bilingual, biliterate leaders of tomorrow. Our learners challenge themselves and each other academically and develop their sense of responsibility to transform their community and world.
The vision of our school is to partner with families and students to create an environment that enables students to be bilingual, creative, thoughtful, self-motivated learners.
And they are! In an age of increasing conflict our students are taught to be problem-solvers in a culture of mutual respect and multiculturalism.
My Project
These books will support all students in understanding that there are many ways to be a kid! Students need to see themselves and their friends in the spaces they inhabit. Providing a print rich environment that represents all kinds of kids will help create empathy and understanding.
We have a diverse community and books are one way to make our classrooms and library more inclusive spaces for everyone.
Your donation will ensure there are gender diverse books in every classroom in our school, including the library. Teachers will also be able to read these books to their students, further normalizing our beautifully diverse community.
