Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My middle school students are learning to take advantage of the free resources in our school library. We are a high needs district and the free resources provided by our school library are so important. The students need to see what the library has to offer them.
A picture of our Middle School shows a diverse high-need school comprised of just over 1000 students in grades 6 to 8.
Half of our student population currently receives free or reduced priced lunch. Approximately half of our students receive support services in addition to their core classes. Many of our students are not native English speakers.
Challenge to Innovate(C2i)is a call to action to public school educators and others to identify and solve education’s most pressing classroom problems. I believe a lack of literacy is one of those challenges. Reading needs to be important to my students.
My Project
This digital photo frame will be used to promote library usage and reading. Students need to SEE how the library can affect their life and what they do. By hanging this frame loaded with pictures in the cafeteria or in the lobby, where the students can’t miss it, I will be able to entice students to enter the library and experience what we have to offer. Just the idea that their picture can be put up on the frame will get the students of this
"youtube generation" into the library where I can work with them to increase literacy, improve grades and understanding and foster a culture of reading.
This digital frame will be hung in our school building to promote reading and library use.
Students can see photos of others reading as well as book covers and trailers of the latest books our library has to offer. Book trailers; both professionally and student created, will be shown.
