Free Soccer For Economically Challenged Children

My students need soccer nets and 10 soccer balls.

I teach remedial math to sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. I teach geometry to a group of seventh grade students. I teach eighth grade math to students with disabilities after school. I volunteer to coach football and wrestling. I believe we need to create extracurricular activities to involve a wider range of students in the school experience.

They can't afford to play but you and I can give them the chance to do something they love for free. I have over one hundred sixth, seventh and eighth grade students who will be able to play soccer in a totally free after school program. The school has approved the program, a local business has donated the soccer goals, a charity is donating the uniforms, the school is donating the field, and a former college player has agreed to coach with me.

My last two obstacles are nets for the goals and soccer balls for the students to kick. This is a very poor community but this is a great opportunity for these girls and boys to compete in an organized sporting environment. The county next to us has heard of our effort and asked if they can participate. My students will spend more time at the school and research shows that students who participate in extracurricular program achieve greater success in the classroom.

I have been working on this project for two years and you can see that I have received support from my community. I need these last two items to complete the project.
