This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 7th graders really enjoy learning. Our school is located in a high poverty urban district. I am currently teaching three classes: two gifted and one inclusion class.

Teaching gifted students and inclusion students during the same year has been a wonderful experience and challenging at the same time.

With such a wide range of levels, I have to differentiate my lessons. I haven't taught inclusion in many years, but I am truly enjoying the experience. My students love to be challenged and can"t get enough of reading.

My Project

I have been teaching Freak The Mighty for years and I still get choked up every time I read it to my students. I am proud of the unit I have created for this novel, but teaching it for so long has caused my books fall apart. The bindings are broke and the pages are falling out. Students are walking up to me with pages in their hand and I just tape the book and hand it back.

I need to provide a book that will engage and excite every type of learner in my classroom and Freak the Mighty is just that book!

They will learn life lessons from two unlikely characters and discover that disabilities are not to be feared, but praised!
