This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students hail from predominately low income backgrounds where 95 percent of them receive free or reduced lunches. As a result, it is very difficult to procure art supplies from the students' families. The students focus on excelling in core content, in preparation for entry into the Early College Enrollment program where they earn college credit or an Associate Degree while in High School.
The students show a great interest in the Arts, as this is only the third year a Fine Arts class has been offered at the school.
They are eager to learn about art and to have a chance to create. Students have shown an increased self confidence in their work and are excited to share what they are doing with others.
My Project
The Blick frames and easels will help our students learn how to prepare their art for a professional display. Students have seen art in a public setting on field trips to the museum and local gallery. This project will help them learn to set up a gallery of their own work.
In collaboration with our Media Specialist, we have started a student art gallery in the Media Center.
These materials will give our student gallery a uniformed and professional appearance. This experience may spark an interest in our students to see art as a career. They will have the experience of learning about art, creating art, and finally displaying art in the student gallery.
