This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Math can be frustrating if you are missing skills. Math can also be fun if given an opportunity to understand the basics. This math kit will support not only struggling learners but those who have already mastered some fifth grade content.

My students are highly motivated dynamic learners.

They are all at different learning levels and in need of different types of support. My students love to work in centers and compete with each other for high scores on our assessments. The first question they ask after every assessment is "Am I proficient?"

My Project

The Meet the Common Core Math Standards Learning Center that I am requesting will help support student understanding of the Common Core standards being introduced in Ohio. Students will work in small groups as part of a center. Students are working to understand fractions and how they impact every day life. Fractions can be hard but they can also be fun. Especially if we have materials to meet the needs of all learners.

These materials will offer us a chance to differentiate Math instruction with manipulatives and real world examples.

It will also give us more work with the common core standards which prepares us for the next grade level.
