Fractions Are Fun

My students need math manipulatives to work with fractions in our third grade classroom. This is one of the standards that is tested the most in third grade.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to make my classroom welcoming and a safe and exciting place to learn. I teach at a Title l school in North Carolina, where one hundred percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Students learn at school but what happens when they leave school to go home.

My Project

In third grade, we begin to work with fractions. Fractions seem to be a concept that is very difficult for many children to understand.

With this being said, at the end of the year, this math concept is the one that is tested more than any other standard on the EOG.

With these math games and kits for fractions, this concept hopefully will be easier for children in our classroom to understand. This will help with hands-on math in the classroom and children seem to learn better and understand what they learn when using hands-on materials. Plus this will make fractions fun to learn as well.
