I would like my students to experience fractions through manipulatives. Fractions are used on a daily basis. Many students hear the word fractions and freak out. My goal is for my students to become very comfortable with fractions and understand fractions. I teach sixth grade math. I have one class that is an inclusion class. These students learn best kinesthetically. The manipulatives will be very beneficial to their learning. By the time these students get to me fractions should be a review. Unfortunately they are not. Our school has almost 1000 students and only contains three grade levels. I teach about 150 students. These manipulatives will allow the students to manipulate the fractions for a better understanding. Fractions are used in our daily lives and many students are very uncomfortable working fraction problems. I want my students to become comfortable when they see fraction problems and understand their meanings.
