Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As an educator, I understand that my classroom is not only a place for academic exploration but just as importantly, a home. My students understand the community we create is one of respect, understanding, empathy, and integrity. This community based learning is not unique to only my classroom; this is held as the standard for all classrooms at my school. They foster education for the whole child, truly going above and beyond to cater to the needs of each student as well as their families.
Serving a large underrepresented group of youths, I am proud to be a member of this school, as its teachers work unbelievably hard to give each child the most opportunities for success.
My job responsibilities are numerous but my students know first and foremost they are the next generation of community changers and lifelong learners. This knowledge inspires them to be internally motivated to create their own futures. With the continuation of my support along with that of the school, these children have a limitless future.
My Project
My students will soon discover the mathematical concept of fractions. Our classroom encourages inquiry and student-driven lessons for meaningful learning. To help facilitate these lessons, it is my job to best prepare my students with resources to assist them in their understanding. The magnetic fraction pieces will help my visual learners understand fractions using different representations, as well as have the capability to compare fractions. My auditory learners, and those that enjoy read-alouds, will benefit greatly from the fraction books. Throughout centers, students will be able to work with partners and share their ideas while solving the fraction puzzle and activities. There are endless possibilities with how these resources can be utilized in the classroom setting to help students develop their understanding of this new concept.
In order to best support them on this academic journey, I want to provide my students with as many versatile and engaging activities as possible to foster their curiosity.
The resources requested here will benefit all learners in the classroom, as they can be used in a variety of ways through partner, small group, or whole class lessons. I am excited to start our next math unit and I know my students are too! With your help, I know their learning experience can reach its full potential!
