I need to attend the FRA conference to keep current with ELA pedagogy.
This project expired on October 1, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My students come from around the world and from many different home lives. Yet, we pull together and form a community - I think grown-ups could learn a lot from kids!
The teaching of reading and writing are continually evolving, with new materials and ideas being published constantly.
Like every teacher, I want to do what is right and what is best for each child and that means having a toolbox full of researched and proven methods to reach each child.
I regularly scour the internet for new texts, ideas, and activities. I spend weeknights and weekends in trainings both online and in person. I am committed to my craft and want to continually improve.
The Florida Reading Association annual conference is the next step in my growth as a Reading instructor.
I want to learn from master instructors and bring those practices back to my own classroom.
An example of something I have learned and used from a previous training was the 40 Book Challenge from Donalyn Miller. For four years I have used this in my classroom to encourage students to read wildly and read widely (across the genres). This has benefited my students tremendously as they have branched out to better reading. I am looking forward to learning more ways to bring kids in and support them fully.
