Ms. Held from Miami FL is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a leveled classroom library, a listening center with audiobooks, and high-interest books to develop a lifelong interest and love for reading.

If you ask my students what their favorite books are, you will receive vague and, sometimes, non responses. Many do not have books at home, and those who do have few that match their reading levels. With these supplies, the absence in reading growth and interest facing students will be eliminated.
My students are vivacious, responsible, and charismatic fourth graders who are learning to be leaders of their elementary school.
These children come from a high-poverty area and try their hardest everyday to make the most of the resources that they are given. Looking into my classroom, you will not see the hardships and injustice that live outside of the fourth grade. You will see students who deserve more than they are provided. You will see students who crave and capitalize on quality educational resources. You will see students who will truly make an impact.
Literary resources for my students are vital. My students come from a very high-need area and most are without books at home, and consequently, many of them read far below grade level. Providing high-interest, low-readability texts will develop a love of habitual reading in my students. As the majority of my students do not read on grade level, the listening center will give students the opportunity to enjoy grade level texts such as Maniac Magee while improving listening comprehension. The potential for reading growth and interest with these supplies will make my students excited for reading class everyday.
Please consider this investment in fourth graders who need the time, resources, and interest in literacy.
Upper elementary school is a pivotal time in a child's life where his or her learning is dependent on his or her reading ability. My students are waiting for the literacy education that meets and expands upon their needs, and this project will secure lifelong reading skills they desperately need.
