My Students

My students are 21st-century learners who are eager to use all of the technology available to them! I teach 30 curious fourth-grade scientists in a small, Title I school that has an amazing and supportive principal.

My students are eager to learn and their brains are sponges that absorb any and all information given to them.

Everything is a potential investigation or experiment to them, so I strive to provide my students with as many learning and project-based opportunities as possible. I constantly enhance the school curriculum and students' intrinsic motivation to learn more by infusing STEM correlations whenever possible.

Because of our small school size, funding levels are not as high as other schools in our area. Grants and projects like this one become an integral part of how I obtain resources to supplement learning experiences. I truly believe that the future lies in our children. They have virtually unlimited potential, and my job is to enable them to reach it.

My Project

Learning about the California gold rush is a major social studies emphasis the fourth-grade classroom. My students will have many different hands-on experiences to help them learn all about this important time in our state's history. When teaching any concept my goal is to provide my students with integrated learning opportunities that enhance learning and ensure success.

Having a class set of What Was the Gold Rush?

and reading it during the unit teaches my students about this historic time frame with real facts about the era.

During this unit, my students will go a wonderful journey back in time! They will be reading a fictional story about the gold rush, learning more about this time in history through the eyes of the characters in fictional books in a fun and interactive way! Adding this informative book to their reading will give them the facts that they will need as they conduct research and complete classroom projects. By funding this project, each student will have their own copy of the book and will be able to delve into the past while studying history in the present!
