How exciting would it be for my fourth graders to share their work with their peers on the BIG screen. Once my fourth graders are taught to use their writing abilities to share their opinions using their voice, this would be a great way to edit their work.
Our school is a public Title One school with limited funding for individual classroom supplies.
I teach three sections of ELA in English for students in our French Immersion Program. I have only ninety minutes with each class, and this is their only English since the rest of their day is in French. It is so important to encourage reading and writing, especially with our new Common Core Standards. This is the first year I have been allowed to have my own classroom due to teaching three classes. I always shared a room with the French teachers. The butler room was formerly used as a storage room, so I am having to furnish all the needed items for my room. I received a Promethean board last month and need a document camera to project my students' writing and reading passages.
My Project
My students would be able to share their writings using the document camera on our new Promethean board. This would be an excellent way to edit for grammar errors, but more importantly to have peers assess each others' writings for the requirements according to given rubrics. Our new curriculum mandates student involvement during our lessons, and this is a perfect tool for students to share, demonstrate and lead instruction. I know from twenty two years of experience, when students are involved in the lessons, they are far more productive and successful.
Having only ninety minutes with each of my three French Immersion classes, I need every minute to be productive.
A document camera to display my students' work or needed material during any given lesson would be very effective to enhance their understanding of needed skills. My students would not only be able to read, but display their writings for the class to read also. Students will work very hard to impress their peers, and what a perfect way for them to show it off, on the BIG screen.
