I have 19 Fourth grade students who come to school excited and eager to learn! Our school was recently approved to be the only STEM elementary school with a focus on engineering in our district. Our school has over 400 students.
We are not a Title I funded school, so we do not receive as many resources as other schools may have.
Our average class size ranges from 20 to 30 students. We have a strong parent group that supports our school and classroom teachers as we transition to a STEM school.
My Project
This project will provide my students with the opportunity to design, build and test structures that can withstand different levels of an earthquake using the different Earthquake Simulator Kits. My students learn best when they have the opportunity to engage in hands-on, inquiry based learning. Students will begin the project by conducting research about causes of earthquakes and their impact on the environment and structures. Students will also conduct research about different types of structures before designing a prototype. Students will test the durability of their structures using the earthquake tremor simulators, then they will modify their designs based on their observations.
This project will provide students with the opportunity to solve real world problems in a fun and exciting way.
Students will also use the Star Wars Bloxels as part of our Maker Space activities. We currently have one Bloxels in our classroom and this would be a welcome addition to our Maker Space.
