Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at my school come from many different cultures, backgrounds and lifestyles. Most of my students are below grade level. In reading, they are anywhere between kindergarten level to sixth grade. The school in which I teach at, is a Title I school that is rich in ethnic and cultural diversity. I am very dedicated to incorporating all subjects with my students, including the arts. My students are lucky enough to be taught science, dance, music, physical education, life skills, library skills, and technology. They will also have the benefit of receiving full time Playworks next year too. I strive to make learning as engaging and meaningful as possible to the students.
My Project
Students will be able to choose books that interest them in our fourth grade classroom library. When students choose books that interest them, they will more likely finish the book, which will grow their interests in reading. I strive to make my classroom library a place that students like to enjoy and dive into a magical book. Currently, the classroom library has books that range from 4th to 9th grade. Being that I am moving to fourth grade this upcoming year, I need more books that are around 3rd to 5th grade reading level. All of these books have been chosen with my student's interests and reading levels in mind. The stools will be used for my guided reading group table to also keep students engage in reading. My students always show a passion for reading, and these books and stools will help grow them into stronger independent readers.
