My students walk into the building every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. They are always ready to learn new things and are happy to be at school. They are full of life and are always just as excited as I am to try the newest thing. They love using computers, working in small groups and independently. They also love to be able to move around the room comfortably and have the choice on where to seat. They are an eager group of students.
My Project
Students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment. Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with whom. It also allows them to change their location and positions as needed in order to help them stay more focused and enthusiastic about their learning.
The bean bags will allow students to sit in a more comfortable area to help them focus.
I have found that my students prefer more comfortable seating options. I have noticed when beginning to implement flexible seating that when a student hits a learning block they tend to move to a more comfortable seating position to help them persevere through the tough work. When I asked my students at the end of this year what flexible seating they would like to see in fourth grade they told me more bean bags and more futons.
