The students at our small, public school in North Georgia are taught to be engaged learners. In my class, there are 26 students who love to learn and be involved in the world around them. They are a diverse group; creative and imaginative. They genuinely love to learn, especially when they have a task in front of them that is engaging. My class has enjoyed seeing the birds come out and begin to build nests this spring. They have enjoyed watching them gather supplies and diligently carry sticks back to the bush where they are working and building a place for their babies. It has brought a refreshing sense of love for nature to our classroom.
It is amazing to see kids falling in love with the world around them!
Each day, my students look out the windows to see the birds; to watch what they are doing. I would love to help them accomplish creating a successful garden habitat to add to our school campus, so that their love for the Earth and its creatures can continue to grow!
My Project
The materials for this project will allow my students to grow more aware of how their choices can either help or hurt the Earth. This project will empower students to play a vital role in creating a space that will help birds, bees, and butterflies have a healthy habitat. This will help us cover science standards, and give students a real-life picture of life science standards, such as environments, and the food chains within them. Science is absolutely engaging to students when they are able to get up out of their seats and play a part in creating something lovely!
