Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The love of learning and the hunger to know are the most important things I can hope to inspire in my students. Before students can grasp complex content they need to be inspired to engage deeply and independently in their learning. My kindergarteners need hands-on materials to deeply engage with their literacy explorations.
My students come to me filled with enthusiasm and curiosity about the world around them, ready to engage in deep learning.
I believe the best way for a five-year-old to learn is to play and explore. When students immerse themselves in authentic experiences their learning is deep and lasting.
My Project
The learning carpet is a wonderful one hundred grid that has large math manipulatives for students to engage in deeply complex play that will lead to concrete understanding of math concepts of all sorts. The carpet and number cards will be used every single day in our classroom in whole group, small group and centers. My students are so excited about the possibilities! The loose parts book will help me plan many math based projects for my curious kindergarteners. It explains howmto use and recycle many random , found objects for use in learning, especially math. We will immerse ourselves in math learning.
