I work with a diverse set of students. I have students from low socio-economic backgrounds and students from more affluent backgrounds. I work with students that are gifted and talented, students that receive extra support, and students that have English as a second language. However different they are though, they are all in my classroom to learn and to be successful.
The thing I love most about my students is that they are hard workers.
They never give up in the face of challenge. I want to be able to support them in their efforts to grow and learn. By funding my project, you will also be able to help.
My Project
Traditionally, math has been taught lecture style with workbooks and work sheets galore. However, this is not how students learn best.
Students learn best by having opportunities to explore concepts in multiple context with engaging hands-on activities and games.
With the materials in this project, students will be able to practice important math skills such as using a number line, graphing data, identify part to whole relationships and fractions with the write on/wipe off materials. This will also cut down on the amount of paper our class uses.
Additionally, the books on this list will help students develop background knowledge about the mathematical concepts they are working on in class. It will also help to improve their reading comprehension and fluency, by reading books about familiar topics.
This project will offer students the opportunity to explore math in an exciting and interesting ways. Students will be able to play games to learn new concepts, read literature to strengthen their understanding, explore manipulatives and more with the items in this project.
