Foundational Reading and Writing Skills Build Great Future Leaders
Help me give my students the Flex-Space Mobile Book Bin Storage Center as well as level books that they need in order to excel with their reading skills.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students love school. They walk in the classroom each day with an optimistic glee in their eyes and words of confirmation that they want to learn something new this day. They greet me with a warm, Good Morning Ms. Barnes", as they head to carpet time to find out what awaits them for the day. They are super excited to hear me demonstrate what good readers do as I begin to read the morning big book to start our day. They always end the day sharing they can't wait to see what they will learn tomorrow.
My Project
While my scholars love school and come to their classroom daily ready to explore what the day will bring. They are limited due to the lack of reading and writing resources we have for our classroom. My students need multiple opportunities to engage and interact with literature to increase their speaking, reading and writing vocabulary. Because our classroom lacks furniture and books to create a library that promotes reading interest, I have many students who will choose other learning interests to explore. The reading furniture and literacy bins will allow students to have a designated library area to foster literacy in the classroom.
Additionally, our classroom lacks a writing area to attract student's interest and passion for writing.
This is important to promote student's fine motor skills (such as grasping, etc.) as well as integrating writing across content areas. The writing center will allow students to become great writers and learn the importance of communication using writing.
