My Students

I have 50 fifth graders that I work with on a daily basis. I love their passion for learning. They love to read. They love to check out books from my classroom library. They enjoy discussing what they are reading with me and recommending books for me to read. These books will give my room and student resources for research projects.

I love each of my students and want to give them the tools they need.

I have a wide spectrum of reading levels in my classes. Their reading levels range from Lexiles of 300 to 1400. I want to keep them interested in reading. In order to help my students increase their own reading levels we partner with kindergarten classes in our building for "Reading Buddies". This allows our fifth graders to act as mentors/teachers while practicing their own skills as readers.

My classroom library has books that have been passed down from retiring teachers and some books I have been able to purchase myself.

My Project

Children need books! Technology cannot replace a book in the hands of a child. These books are high interest books and will be an asset for my students. Reading is the foundation for almost everything in life. My students love to read and I want to foster that love by putting high interest books in my room for them. I teach at a school that has 85% free and reduced lunches so parents providing reading materials is not an option for most of my kids. I want to feed their passion before the fire goes out. My kids deserve my best!
