Fostering Language in a Montessori Classroom

My Project

Language activities in the Montessori classroom prepare the pre-K student for auditory learning by developing memory and critical thinking. Perception and use of spoken language, developing vocabulary, isolation of sounds, and visual discrimination of forms and letters are some of the first steps to reading. Reading activities are designed to strengthen and enrich the children’s vocabulary and lead them through phonemic awareness and then on to reading and comprehension.

Montessori said, “To talk is in the nature of man.”

The evolution of the human language began when communication was done through pictograms or pictures and drawings. The reading program, storage unit, and other materials I am asking for are not only beautiful to look at, but they are set up to assist the child by tapping into their natural need for order. Not only are these materials color coded and matching, but they are presented in order of the progression of their learning.

It is my responsibility to prepare and organize the learning environment to meet the needs and interests of the children as well as promote independence. Please help me achieve this goal. You generosity helps set these children up for success!
