My students need a mailbox/communication station to organize daily take home work and school correspondence.
Our school is a public Montessori school in which our students start by learning practical life skills which they will use in everyday life. Our students are an amazing group of 3 - 6 year olds. They stay in our classroom for a three year cycle. The relationships that they develop are inspiring.
Our students come to us from an urban environment in which resources run scarce and teachers have to find imaginative ways to engage our students.
Most of our students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, however they come to school eager to learn.
Maria Montessori believed children develop most efficiently and effectively when given the opportunities to create independence. A mailbox system will create just that; students will be responsible for managing their own work. From putting Home/School communication folders in as they enter the classroom, allowing me, at a quick glance, to see who has followed classroom protocol, to putting completed work in throughout the day, to taking papers out to take home at the end of the day.
Having a mailbox system will create a sense of responsibility that will foster independence and organizational skills for all students.
Students are more vested in managing their daily tasks when they have a specific job. This creates a more harmonious classroom where I can put my attentions toward instruction and not sorting papers.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
