Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Queens, New York has been one of the hardest hit areas since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. Many of my children have parents that are positive and grandparents that are hospitalized and in a touch and go situation. This has had a detrimental affect on their social emotional well-being and remote learning has been difficult for them to adapt to for a number of reasons. I work in a Title 1 school with a diverse population of over 1500 students and where more than 70 languages are spoken. Many of my students are staying with relatives and/or other caretakers are their family members are essential personnel.
My Project
I am looking to take my remote teaching to a new level to try to engage my amazing children academically while also being there to meet their social-emotional needs. These materials will enable me to provide effective "live" instruction that will meet the needs of all of my diverse learners. The document camera will be used to record videos and scan pages from books that students will need to continue their education at home. Most importantly, the document camera will help me deliver real-time instruction to my students so they can feel as if they were in the classroom. Wireless headphones with a microphone will aide me in creating educational content for my class to enrich their at home learning. A magnetic dry erase board will enrich my instruction as I will be afforded the opportunity to analyze and annotate important concepts that they need to understand for the next grade. Finally, office supplies will help me to create critical anchor charts to meet their individual needs.
