My students are future leaders and entrepreneurs who are hungry for a chance to experience the world of business through DECA. This program offers students with various strengths, cultures, backgrounds, and incomes a chance to learn real-world skills you don't get from sitting in a classroom. My students want to challenge themselves, get outside their comfort zone and explore what awaits them after high school. I love watching them take control of their future & take ownership of their learning through DECA!
My Project
DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools around the world. The Area 7 DECA Conference, held at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center, is the first level of competition for students around the Puget Sound and Olympic Peninsula. Students chose competitive event categories based on their personal or professional interests, and present their business ideas in front of a judge. Judges are often business professionals themselves, connecting the classroom with the real-world.
DECA competition provides students once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to travel the nation, connect with their peers, and experience the world of business while still in high school.
DECA sets a standard of professionalism for teens that they don't see in their everyday lives. However, as graduation approaches, it becomes more and more crucial they understand the importance of interview etiquette, resume building and professional communication skills. DECA enhances your typical "extracurricular" experience through fun and challenging competitive events and leadership conferences. Through DECA, students take ownership of their learning and their futures in a way that goes far beyond tests and grades. DECA is how students make the most of their high school years and become lifelong leaders.
