Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are inquisitive, creative, and compassionate. We want to afford our students with an exceptional learning environment that helps close the achievement gap. Currently in Lynwood, 52% of the residents have a high school diploma and only 6% hold a Bachelor’s degree. Studies have shown that students who have not mastered reading by 3rd grade are less likely to graduate from high school. As such, our school has a strong focus on balanced literacy, which centers greatly around reading, reading, reading! We want our scholars to be ready to for college.
As the city’s first charter school, we are giving families an option for their child’s education.
Currently, Lynwood does not have any public, high performing elementary schools. We want to ensure that all students have access to an elementary school that prepares them to academically and emotionally succeed from kindergarten to college and beyond.

These books will enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. As a child, did you devour books as you lost track of time? Help me buy books for my classroom library so that my students can have the same experience.
