This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students have the desire to become life long readers. They know that reading is academically important but their desire to read goes beyond wanting to get an "A" grade or to pass the latest standardized test.
My students want to be good readers.
They know that they need extra support and are ready to be risk-takers, brave, and honest during their reading group. My students advocate for themselves and know that success will take focus and hard work.
Most of all, my students want to enjoy reading and are excited each day that they will a be a part of a reading group that will help them reach their goal.
My Project
My students are reading one to two years below grade level and are receiving reading intervention outside of the classroom in addition to guided reading within the classroom. By providing high interest, low readability books for them to read at school and to take home they will be able to build their confidence in reading while enjoying books at the same time.
I hope that my students mindset will shift from reading being a task to reading being fun!
With titles including Judy Moody, Magic Tree House, and Nate the Great my students are sure to begin developing a love of reading. My students deserve engaging books to read independently as they continue to improve their reading skills in order to become lifelong readers.
