My students this year are 10th-12th graders. They are going to be such a fun group and eager to learn. Most of them come from low-income homes, so many of them need some extra attention and love. My goal for them this year is to establish and encourage a love for learning. I want them to want to explore the world by providing them with various opportunities to do so.
My students need to learn to be active participants in their own learning, so I want them to learn to love reading as much as I do.
I know I have many students who read independently already, but I would like for all of them to become better readers.
My Project
My goal is for my students to become lifelong readers. One way I can do this is by providing them access to books. Recently, our school library's hours have been cut, so I want to make sure that students in my classroom will have access to as many books as I can provide for them in order for them to have a better chance of finding something they love.
I want to help expand my students' horizons by offering them books that are engaging, diverse, and impactful so that they can learn about other people and cultures in the world.
I am incorporating "First Chapter Fridays" each week so I can introduce students to a new book. It is my hope that I will have more titles added to my classroom library so students will never run out of reading material from which to choose.
