My students live in East Palo Alto, Redwood City, San Mateo, San Carlos, and Belmont. They come from various social-economic backgrounds.
My students are taking on the challenge of learning a completely different language: Chinese, in an area where Spanish is the dominating world language.
My students come in every day with high energy and are eager to learn. They often comment that this is the class they look forward to every day because it is fun and full of laughter. It is very important for my students to have fun while learning such a different and challenging language.
Creative and fun activities are an integral part of our lessons to provide students the opportunity to "Shine" through their creative works! We utilize many tools, such as flashcards, whiteboards, whiteboard markers and erasers, poster papers, scratch papers for learning activities, as well as color markers, crayons, glue sticks, scissors, and other materials for creative activities.
My Project
These books will add to the classroom library of books for different skill levels that I strive to create. These books have been chosen with my students in mind. These books come in three different levels for students with 500 characters, 800 characters, and 1,000 characters. They cover a wide variety of topics relevant to our lives. These books are colorfully illustrated for visually inclined students. For students who are audio learners, the three audio pens will read the books to them!
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own skill level.
Students will be able to choose books based on their level, interest, and learning style, which will help them enjoy independent reading time. The best way to foster the love of reading is to have options. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to support my students to become stronger in reading. This project will enrich their experiences with the printed word and foster their love for reading.
