Help me give my students an authentic Science experience as I implement NGSS. Students will dig for fossils and explore light and wave properties, helping my students to design and test their own experiments with these supplies.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 13-14 year old young adults with a variety of social and economic needs. More than half of my students come from low‑income households.
My students are curious and eager to learn; they ask questions and are practicing writing scientifically testable questions and planning investigations.
I work with each student individually to help them meet their goals, have a growth mindset, and a love for Science.
The majority of my students have not had the opportunity or access to experience an interactive Science classroom in which they drive the learning process.
My Project
Students love doing hands-on experiments and engineering projects! With these new fossil specimens students will be able to excavate like real Paleontologists. The fossils and plaster will be will be used to explore craters and collisions, like the giant asteroid that wiped out the Dinosaurs. We will also be studying light and wave properties. Students will use the prisms to observe light split into the different colors of the rainbow.
Purchasing these supplies for my students would positively impact and enrich their lives by giving them an authentic Science experience.
It is my hope that I can create scientifically literate adults that would choose to enter Science careers in the future.
