My students are curious and lively. My fourth-grade classroom is a place of discovery. I am constantly seeking ways to engage and challenge my group of gifted learners. My goal is to prepare my students to think critically and solve problems. Many of the students in our school receive free lunch due to their socioeconomic status. This lack of resources can limit the experiences students have. I hope to provide engaging materials to broaden their outlook on life and their future. Science is everywhere in the world around us, and I hope to provide opportunities to incorporate STEM into our classroom in order to prepare my students for their future careers.
My Project
My students learn about fossils as part of fourth grade science. We need to have hands-on materials because many of my students lack experiences. My students need to create art to incorporate their whole brain while learning science. Just reading about fossils is not true learning.
These two art projects will awake the inner paleontologist in each student.
In the first art project, we will use the Dancing Bear Fossil Collection to study, draw, and print fossils using the Crayola Air Dry Clay. This truly puts the A in STEAM!
For the second art project, we will use the Glycerin Soap Base and Insects to recreate amber fossils like the example amber fossils included in the materials. Students will be able to take home their creation and remember their science and art lesson every time they wash their hands.
