My students need the opportunity to work with Naturalist Ken Benton to weave the art of storytelling with fort building in our school's forest.
This project expired on April 28, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
We are a small rural school located in central Vermont. We have a class of mixed three and four year olds in preschool, a class of kindergarten children, and two classes of first and second graders who are eager to learn and explore the natural world.
To encourage and support all students, we value time spent outdoors and participate in a program that allows us to spend time each week exploring and observing our school forest.
We call this time ECO-Educating Children Outside.
We will use funding through Donors Choose to hire master storyteller and naturalist, Ken Benton, to come to our school for three days to work with preschoolers through second graders.
During our time with Ken, the children will listen to stories about the natural world, as well as create and tell stories on their own and in small groups.
Using the stories as our inspiration, the children will build natural shelters in our forest classrooms.
By choosing to donate to this project, you will be empowering our children to use storytelling to embrace the natural world and tell their own stories. Through access to this programming children will become more confident and self directed learners.
