My students need relevant and engaging novels for book clubs. At the core of a book club is the belief that members achieve their reading goals by working together.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 8th graders in a public middle school. These students are typical youth, finding their way in the world, while at the same time, striving for academic success. While balancing social lives and lives outside of school, these students come to school every day to work hard to be the best students they can be.
These students are the future.
However, they need some help to ensure they all work to their potential and stay on track. I want my students to remain inspired, to see the big picture, and to work to make their dreams come true. These are exceptional young people that I teach, and I truly believe that they all have the potential to do great things.
Our school serves students in grades 6-8 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers, and a safe learning environment. As a result, we are very proud of all of our students' outstanding achievements. My personal goal, as an English and History teacher, aligns with our school goal of preparing our students for success in high school, college, and beyond.
My Project
Book clubs provide an enjoyable and easy way for students to develop many literacy skills. They are also a great way for students from ALL backgrounds to discuss a variety of important issues. It's a great time to be a reader of young adult fiction.
The teenage years are crucial in an adolescent's development, and there are so many new books out there now that will help students work through the many different struggles of growing up.
As a teacher, my main goal is to help my students gain a love for literature. Through book club discussions, I am hoping that my students connect with one another along the way as well! The books that I have selected are all part of the Project Lit Community Book Club - teachers across the nation are starting these book clubs for their students, and I want my students to be a part of it!
