Formative Magnet Play

Help me give my students magnet tiles to build fine motor coordination and get through a winter of indoor recess!

My Project

My kindergarten students have entered their formative school years with less developed fine motor skills than students tended to have before COVID-19. Fine motor skills are critical for school as they are fundamental in writing, cutting, and using manipulatives. To counteract this trend, I am gathering materials that will encourage students to build their fine motor skills. They will have access to these materials during station work for math and during indoor recess.

In addition to building fine motor skills, magnet tiles will help students learn more about engineering, shapes and mathematics, and social skills such as sharing and taking turns.
