Thank you for considering supporting my students! Our school is a large, urban school in South Sacramento, California. We serve over 1800 very diverse students with over 20 different home languages spoken! It's in English classes like mine that students practice their use of academic language and, of course, reading and writing strategies to prepare for college and the workplace.
My students face many challenges (and 100% are provided free lunch due to poverty), but they are the most resilient and strong young people you could ever meet.
They need our help to teach and show them the amazing opportunities that education can afford them. It is so important that we can provide for them the learning environment and experiences they need in order to meet the needs of the new and ever-changing workplace.
I have loved this school since the moment I stepped onto campus. I began my journey into education right here, with a student teaching position here in 2002, and was lucky enough to be hired on full-time the very next school year. I now teach 9th and 12th grade and love to witness the growth from freshmen to seniors!
My Project
Typical standing desks are out of the budget of many schools, so a more affordable solution is a wonderful thing.
Giving students the option of standing during class is a great way to engage students who need a little variance during class.
Since class runs long, many students like to have a drink or snack and a refrigerator will help me offer a space for that, along with the lunchtime crowd who prefer to be away from the masses in
the noisy quad.
Other items we need are simple pens, note taking tools, and places to safely charge electronic devices. Making our classroom a safe, welcoming space for students to learn in is key to successful outcomes for students. When students feel safe, comfortable and welcomed, they are more receptive to learning and working hard.
