Remember when elementary school was all about learning the three Rs? Well, it still is! It is nearly impossible to master our Reading, wRiting and aRithmetic without the three Ps: pencils, paper and post-its!
I am a general education teacher in a fourth grade classroom.
My students live in the neighborhood surrounding our school. I work in one of the poorest counties in New York state, in the roughest city.
My students are a pleasure to teach. They are interested in learning, hard-working and very amusing. I look forward to spending my days with them.
My Project
I am asking for some basic supplies to get our school year off to a terrific start! The materials I am requesting are pencils (colored and standard) chart paper, post-it notes and markers. These items get used so quickly throughout the year. Normally, I would ask the parents to help support our classroom, but we live in a poverty-stricken area where the parents are working two or more jobs to help keep their children clothed and fed.
In the 21st Century, one might believe that pencils and paper are not necessary, but they are. My students need pencils to write, to create and to color. My students also post-its to jot thoughts upon, chart paper and markers for group projects and reference charts.
Elementary school is still elementary school, in spite of the addition of Smart Boards and other technology.
Having these basic supplies will allow kids who should not have a chance, a chance to succeed!
