Help me give my students these art materials so we can do more hands-on art projects! These paints, crafting supplies, and markers are instrumental in giving the students an opportunity to be creative!
My students come from a mixture of backgrounds. Most of my students are low income/high poverty families. We also have a high population of English Language Learners in our school.
My students are very energetic and get excited about learning!
Having extra materials to help my students learn would be wonderful. Many of our students do not get to have the experiences that others do because of their socioeconomic status and family background, so having the chance to provide these materials and experiences to my students is priceless!
My Project
In reading class, it is standard practice to read a book and take a test on it. Taking a pencil/paper test is not always the best way to determine whether or not a student understood the material in the book. So instead of having my students always take a test, I sometimes let them create their own picture book of the novel, create a commercial or advertisement for the book, or make a 3-D model of something in the book. That's where these art supplies come in.
Using art and creativity is a great way for students to show understanding of material!
Giving the students the opportunity to be creative will still hold them accountable for the material of the book, but it does so in a way that is more fun. It allows them to draw, sculpt, build, engineer, and design. It allows them to demonstrate their comprehension of the story through art and engineering, and it is the perfect way for kinesthetic learners to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.
