Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My listen to reading center is the most popular center...but it also currently consists of only 1 computer and 2 headphones! My students want to Leap for Reading! Help them grow as readers with the LeapFrog Tag Reading System.
I teach in a large, economically disadvantaged public school in Georgia.
My students represent an often unheard group of our community. Of my 20 students, 15 are Hispanic, 3 are black, and 1 is a Asian American. 16 are English Language Learners, 16 are on free or reduced lunch, and 6 are in the special education program. Most of my students arrived in my classroom due to the dedication and determination of their parents to provide them with a sound and safe education. My students’ parents are as involved as they can be, but due to extreme generational poverty, they are often unable to provide their children with the same level of school readiness that many children across the country receive.
My Project
The LeapFrog Tag Reader is a wonderful use of student-friendly technology. When used with a LeapFrog Tag book, The Tag reading pen will read words, sentences, and even help students sound out words. The Tag Reader allows students who may normally need additional assistance to access books, maps, and leaning games independently.
The LeapFrog Tag readers and books will help my struggling readers and English Language Learners experience success and discover the joy of reading.
With your help, my students will be leaping for reading in no time!
The children that I teach are part of our future generation.
They come to school not only because their parents fought to get them here, but because they want to be here. Help my students become strong readers, critical thinkers, and life-long learners.
