I'm a Reading Specialist at a Title 1 urban school just outside the nation's capital. These students come from very hardworking families, Many of my students' first language is not English. They have worked extremely hard and are now on the verge of reading at grade level. I need them to continue this rise and want to spark their interest in reading. By becoming more skilled in new strategies to teach these these readers and writers I hope to be able to do this.
My Project
For years I have followed Jen Jones and her professional development outreach on Facebook and Instagram. She is always giving practical ways to implement reading strategies to students. I'm looking for funding to learn from Jen Jones in one of her amazing two day literacy workshops.
By attending this professional conference I would bring my new learning back in my daily work with my students.
I also with share these new insights with colleagues and help them grow as literacy teachers. I work daily with students that are below grade level in reading and I want to be able to learn new ways to ignite the spark in them to love reading as much as I do!
During this two day conference I will be engaged in hearing more about essential reading comprehension skills and strategies of 21st century thinkers. Jen will be modeling a variety of low prep/high yield instructional strategies. These two days will showcase student centered ownership of strategies for reading engagement and reading achievement. This conference will help me grow as a literacy educator.
