I am a first-year teacher at a Title I school where a majority of the students who are enrolled receive free or reduced-price lunch. A high percentage of the students come from low-income housing around the area.
Even with the difficult situations that some of these students have faced at such a young age, they still come to school with spirit.
There are a variety of backgrounds and personalities, but the students all have one thing in common: they come to school excited and ready to learn!
In Kindergarten we spend a lot of time teaching the students their numbers. We ask them to count, represent the numbers with objects, compose and decompose numbers, and compare!
It is very difficult for the students to be successful with these skills if they are not fluent in their fact fluency.
This program focuses on fact fluency and will give the students the practice that they need daily. What is helpful is that it comes with a teaching manual that shows you the skills that should be taught each day, and how the skills build on each other. With your help I can give the students a fresh new way to be fluent in math!
