My students are smart, creative, hardworking, and eager to learn! Most, but not all, are English learners in the classroom. The students live in a small town near fields where a lot of fruits and vegetables are grown. The school is huge, with more than 700 students. The students are tackling the new Common Core Standards. They want to succeed in school! They are kind, safe, and responsible. The school, like most, is not able to pay for extra supplies.
Hi! My students need headphones while doing work on the laptop computers in the classroom and when they are in the computer lab. Right now the school does not have the funding for headphones. When students take the yearly state California Common Core tests the students receive earbuds. The earbuds only last for a little bit and are primarily used for the spring state tests.
Over the head headphones will benefit all of my students by blocking outside noise, and letting students concentrate better on the computer task.
Fourth graders use Wonders Reading and Language Arts, Swun Math, MobyMax, Scholastic News Magazine, Science Spin, Accelerated Reader, NASA Kids Club, Prodigy, and many others websites on the computers. Without headphones, all of these sites produce noise, and with 25 to 30 students all working on computers, that creates a lot of noise!
In the past, around April, when students are given the earbuds to use only for practice testing, they appear more focused on what they are working on.
Over the head headphones are safer for the ears than the earbuds, and I believe more comfortable to wear. Loud volume sounds on the earbuds can create damage to the inner ear. I am hoping to have headphones for all of my students earlier in the school year.
