Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The best books for novice readers are those in which your imagination can soar free. I want my students to anticipate picking up a book to see where their favorite character will go next or how they can connect to the book that they just can't put down.
The thing I love most about my students is that they are eager to learn.
There is not a day that goes by that my students don't question the world around them.
I teach at a charter school in the city, and my students travel as far as one hour away to achieve the best education possible. Charter schools are special because we have students from all over the city who have chosen to come to our school because they want a good education.
Most of my students get free or reduced lunches but you would never guess their background by the way they come to school each day.
I want the absolute best for my students which is why I am always adapting and modifying my teaching in order to practice most effective teaching.
My Project
At my school we have a jam packed schedule in order to get the most out of the day. One of the breaks my class has each day is a read a loud in which I choose a book that my students can relate too in one way or another.
It has been my experience that my students are more engaged when they have their own book that they can follow along with. I would like titles such as Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, Matilda, Holes and Bud, Not Buddy.
I want each of my students to have a book to follow along with so they are able to question and comment and be able to successfully hold class discussions.
This will be my second year with my own classroom and one of the most important lessons I have learned is that reading sets the foundation for my students.
I want my students to be interactive learners and one of the easiest ways to do that is for them to all be a part of our daily read aloud. I want them to be able to lead class discussions and question the stories in order to learn more. By donating you will make that educational foundation even stronger.
