My Students

My students are 11th and 12th graders in an urban district. We are smaller in size than neighboring districts, representing a unique group of students.

We are a diverse group learners.

Students in my district represent 92 countries and over 50 languages spoken. My students complete the range of socio-economic status. Some do not have access to books. Some have a library full at home. My goal is to make this gap smaller. They are amazingly open-minded students who love to think and be challenged every day.

My Project

An important part of my classroom culture revolves around reading. I geek out with my students by giving them weekly reading goals, sharing book talks, doing fun monthly BINGO challenges, and celebrating their reading accomplishments every week. Each semester, students say they read more than they ever have before.

Last semester, my students read over 500 books.

This semester, I am challenging my students to read more than that. Having a refreshed classroom library with these highly requested and award-winning titles will help me encourage students to meet these goals.
