Help me give my students books for read alouds that reflect the cultural backgrounds represented and languages spoken in my classroom community, helping students connect with the stories they are seeing and hearing in class.
The children in my class are from many different backgrounds and cultures. There are six languages spoken in my classroom and my students bring with them a wealth of knowledge and understanding. My students are curious, hard-working, and deserve the very best instructional materials I can give to them.
My Project
I would like to request multicultural crayons and books for read alouds that reflect the cultural backgrounds represented and languages spoken in my classroom community, helping students connect with the stories they are seeing and hearing in class. The most important comprehension work in Kindergarten is done through read alouds and I would like to increase my students' engagement by making our classroom read alouds more relevant to the students in my class. I seek to use texts that will help students gain pride about themselves and also learn about other cultures and backgrounds.
All students deserve to see themselves in the books we read in class and feel valued.
These books will be enjoyed by students as read aloud texts both online and in person.
I am also requesting multicultural crayons. These crayons, called "The Colors of Us," will help all my students find the right color to draw themselves and their friends here at school.
