Students in my area of Virginia, are excited to learn. They are eager to come to school, however, like most students they are faced with adversity outside of the school system, but inside, they are proving that they can be productive members of society. They love to learn, show engagement in their learning, and a desire to reach the high expectations that I set for them.
Of course, meeting high expectations brings about the need to be highly motivated.
My students are highly motivated by choice seating, higher-level nonfiction and fiction texts, and being able to collaborate with their peers. We share pride in our hard work and together we plan to grow as a healthy school family.
I am working to build our classroom library. These books will empower my students to read. Third grade is a transitional period where students move from learning to read to reading to learn. To help smooth this transition for my students I want to provide them with interesting and meaningful books.
I want my students to not only read for learning but for enjoyment as well.
I believe that it is very important for my student to learn to love reading rather than viewing it as a chore or something they have to do. Providing my students with interesting books will help facilitate this love.
