Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is filled with amazing, little humans. They reflect the diversity San Francisco offers and engage in our school community with enthusiasm and passion one could forget even existed. Our days consist of talking together all the time, ABC's, reading independently, together, with a partner, tears, play, math games, stations, group hugs, conflict, dancing, writing to people we love and sharing our stories.
My students come into the room with so much to offer the world; creativity, life experience, laughter, raw emotion and love.
I make sure each student, their experiences and communities are represented, valued and appreciated.
My Project
In first grade, students are exploring their identities as readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists and people in this world. As a teacher, I try to create a space where students can explore these different identities and positively see themselves in each. I do this by providing a variety of materials that students find interesting and are intrinsically motivated to want to explore more.
Incorporating more high interest books into our library, will keep reading exciting and motivate students to read not just as a learning strategy but also for pleasure.
My goal is to support students to become lifelong lovers of reading.
