Reading is one of the most important ingredients to building a solid foundation in a child's education! The ability range of my third graders is unique in that I have some who are considered "Beginning Readers" and some reading on a fifth grade level! They yearn for books that are intriguing, yet not above their abilities.
“The more that you read, the more things you will know.
The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.”— Dr. Seuss
Many students in our community only have access to books while at school. As a Title I school, students are limited in ways that prevent them from receiving the amount of books needed to continue building their love of reading!
My Project
When a student is told to read independently, there is always a mixture of emotions. I have learned over the years that students who are excited about reading have found books that interest them and who also have a hard time putting them away. As an avid reader, I love seeing my students yearn to pick out a book that they know will bring enjoyment to their day.
Students who have an opportunity to choose books on their level, that also excites them to read, are more engaged during our independent reading time.
They find themselves escaping into a world of imagination and wonder that can sometimes only be found in a book. This classroom library will continue to enhance readers' minds and encourage them to read not only to learn, but for the joy that books can bring!
