This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a wonderful school where students are in collaboration with teachers towards building a classroom community and a culture where leadership and higher learning are a focal point. The demographics of the student's is African-American. Our students come from all over the city of Columbus.
It is important that our school is able to stay current with the trends in technology, basic supplies, and academic resources to promote the higher learning that we are achieving.
These students are willing and wanting to excel. Providing opportunities to experience academic learning in various formats is a goal.
My Project
My student's favorite part of the day is when they have the opportunity to have a story read to them. Often times I have to utilize the public library to get the books that are being studied. Having a classroom collection will allow my students to readily read the books and not wait on the availability of the library.
The books will be added to our classroom library where the students will be able to engage with them during independent reading time.
As part of the read aloud extension the students create a craft about the story. The classroom set of glue sticks will be a surplus for my students to create a craft that shows their learning of the story.
