My Students

Our students are voracious readers who love to learn and explore new worlds through books. Our teachers love sharing new books with our students. We use books to help teach new concepts, explore curiosity, and develop a love for reading.

At our campus, one of our literacy goals is to "build our students' enthusiasm and love for reading."

One way that we build this love of reading is through student interest and choice. Students get many opportunities to read whether it be in Self-Selected Reading time, reading with the teacher in book clubs or buddy reading with a younger class, they are immersed in literacy and it is obvious that a love for reading is the heart of our campus. I am the campus Instructional Coach and would love to be able to help our teachers add more resources to their toolkit for Guided Reading.

My Project

By having these leveled readers, our students will have a greater selection of high-interest books. Our teachers will have more choice when selecting books for their Guided Reading instruction.

When students have a choice in what they read, they are more invested in their learning.

This in turn leads to a love of reading and growth in understanding of reading concepts. Studies show that when children are exposed to a vast variety of books, this translates to overall academic success. Our campus' main goal is to build a community of lifelong readers. This project will help us achieve this goal.
