Hello everyone and thank you for choosing my letter to read. This is my second year of teaching first grade bilingual children and I love what I do. In our school we serve children who come from low income families. For a while now I have wished for a classroom library for my students. To some extent they have access to books from our school library but usually they can check out only one book at a time for a period of one week. These children come not only from a low income household but also from parents that cannot read in English and even sometimes in their native language, so their exposure to books are very low. Having a library of great books in our own classroom would give these children more opportunities to experience great reading moments and therefore help them learn to read. My wish consists of a collection of classic books, a Dr. Seuss collection and a heavy duty book center. I really think this project will help my 22 children develop and sustain the love of reading.
